Where is Gubbi?

Gubbi is located about 90 km north-west of Bangalore, Karnataka and about 20 km west of Tumkur. See the enclosed map. It is a taluk headquarters and one of the ten taluks in Tumkur District, Karnataka. Gubbi is on the erstwhile Bangalore Honnavara Road (BH Road), now National Highway 206 plying from Bangalore to Honnavara via Tumkur, Gubbi, Tiptur, Arsikere, Kadur, Birur, Tarikere, Bhadravathi, Shimoga, Sagar and Gerusoppa after which this hits the coast at Honnavara.

How to reach Gubbi?

You can reach Gubbi from Bangalore in any of the following ways.

1. By KSRTC (Bus):

You can reach Gubbi by taking any Express Service bus starting from the Kempe Gowda Bus Station (Majestic) towards Shimoga, Hosadurga, Tiptur or Arsikere. All these express services have a scheduled stop at Gubbi Bus Station. Current fare of this commuting is Rs. 82/- per head. It would take about 2 hours and 30 minutes from Kempe Gowda Bus Station to reach Gubbi. There are several services towards Shimoga and chances are you will find one almost every 10 minutes.

2. By South Western Railways (of the India Railways):

These are the following passenger trains that provide a stop at Gubbi Railway Station. These are passenger trains that stops at most stations enroute to Gubbi and have to travel in unreserved compartment. Yet, the journey is not more than 2.5 hours with a fare of Rs. 17/- only.

3. By your own automobile:

You can take the NH 4 towards Tumkur and drive along until Tumkur for 70 km. Once you reach Tumkur, you will have to take a deviation towards Shimoga / Gubbi and hit the NH 206. You can either take the Tumkur bypass for which you need to take the first exit after the Jas Toll exit before Kyatsandra or else pass through Tumkur city for which you will have to take the deviation to the left after the Fire Station (on your left). There are signages suggesting you to turn left at these intersections. It will take about 30 minutes from Tumkur.

Getting Back to Bangalore

You can get back to Bangalore in any of the following ways.

1. By KSRTC (Bus):

You can get back to Bangalore by taking any Express Service bus starting from Gubbi Bus Station towards Tumkur and Bangalore. Most services originating from Shimoga, Hosadurga, Tiptur or Arsikere have a scheduled stop at Gubbi Bus Station. Current fare of this commuting is Rs. 82/- per head. It would take about 2 hours and 30 minutes from Gubbi to reach Kempe Gowda Bus Station. There are several services towards Tumkur and Bangalore and chances are you will find one almost every 10 minutes.

2. South Western Railways (of the India Railways):

Typically the journey is not more than 2.5 hours with a fare of Rs. 17/- only, however at times due to crossing there can be delays.
