Bisle Biodiversity Workshop - 2017

Location: Bisle, Karnataka | Dates: 15 – 16 – 17 September, 2017

Gubbi Labs is pleased to announce a biodiversity field day in Bisle. The 3-day workshop will involve theory and field sessions, with an aim to equip participants with the tools to identify and explore the rich biodiversity of the region.  It will include rigorous hands-on field sessions and long walks in the forests (outside protected area). So, come prepared for a weekend of learning and fun with the biodiversity of Bisle.

The sessions will cover major taxa: flora, amphibians, and birds along with conducting biodiversity estimations and exploring ideas on conservation. There will be specific sessions on tree identification, amphibian ecology and citizen science for conservation, besides a host of field sessions on setting up a quadrat to estimate the floral diversity, line transects for bird diversity estimations and time-based sampling for frogs.

The different sessions will be led by Dr. Srikanth Gunuga, Dr. Gururaja KV, Dr. Sudhira HS, and other resource persons on invitation.

Bisle is located north of the Pushpagiri Wildlife Sanctuary in the Western Ghats. The montane evergreen forests around this region are home to several endemic species of flora and fauna. This workshop will give participants an opportunity to explore the pristine forests of Bisle and to learn about several species of amphibians, reptiles, birds and plants, many of which are found nowhere else in the world.

The Bisle Biodiversity Workshop is an extension of the Bisle Frog Watch that has been taking place for the past 6 years. It is also part of Gubbi Labs’ Project Ashoka – the Long Term Ecological Research initiative to undertake biodiversity estimations with a citizen science interface.
