Crop Area Estimation using Remote Sensing

The Labs initially got into development of algorithms and methods for estimating the growth and areal extent for a particular variety of crop for a certain client. However, with the availability of Landsat ETM+ satellite data at a spatial resolution of 30 m for free since Oct 2008 has opened up access to unlimited and consistent data feeds. Despite the anomaly in the data products due to the Scan Line Corrector's (SLC) failure, the Labs has already developed expertise in rectifying the SLC-off Landsat ETM+ satellite data products. With this, current research is being undertaken in developing methods to estimate the areal extents of different crop varieties and their corresponding yields.
